How to configure a competency-based assessment
Competencies are optional. To use them, confirm an assessment-specific decision and limit generation or editing to the appropriate framework, competencies and indicators.
- Decision
- Explicit for each assessment
- Options
- Official, custom or disabled
- Analysis
- Depends on traceable questions and responses
Choose the competency system
Select the country or educational context
The country sets the search context but does not automatically select a framework.
Choose a mode
Select Official framework when a published package exists, Custom competencies with a compatible structure, or No competencies.
Check the version
For official frameworks, check name, version, source and declared full or partial coverage.
Confirm the decision
The assessment saves its own settings without changing your general account preference.
Select competencies and indicators
Use the package’s full scope or narrow by domain, level, grade and selected competencies. Within each competency, select indicators appropriate to the activity goal.
The catalog can have partial coverage and does not necessarily include every country, level, grade or subject. Loaded Dominican Republic combinations let you choose specific competencies and achievement indicators. The interface identifies summaries that are not official quotations and retains source references when available.
Link questions to your selection
- Review the competencies selected for the assessment.
- Assign only the competencies and indicators each question actually measures.
- Check coverage summaries to find selections without associated questions.
- When changing curriculum context, review links the platform says will be removed.
Read results responsibly
Competency analysis uses only questions with valid metadata and eligible graded observations. Review coverage and pending items before comparing groups; coverage alone does not demonstrate mastery.
One question can provide evidence for multiple competencies. Counts overlap and must not be added as if they were unique items.
Check AI-suggested alignment links before publishing. Suggestions are limited to the curriculum selection and may need human correction.
